How Many of You actually play the stock shaft in the Callaway GBB Epic Line? And What's Your Thoughts? I've had the Aldila Rogue MAX 65 In my bag now and it feels strong and suitable for me, The HZRDUS feels like a shaft that was just painted to look like the T1100 but doesn't feel anything like that even if you downgraded the T1100. I really want to know how the Fujikura Pro 72 feels, I like the overally definition and feel to my perspective but I'd like toknow what the fellow Community members think as well. And what shafts you Low or Scratch Handicappers have in yours instead.
Didn’t particularly like the stock shafts, they seem to be mostly watered down shafts. I use the adilia Rogue max 75 stock shaft in x stiff in my 3 and 5 wood though. But in my epic driver I use the graphite design tour ad di 6 in x stiff, used it in my previous callaway driver. Going to switch to the fujikura atmos blue in x stiff. I find my dispersion gets a lot tighter with custom fitted shafts, but I have a higher swing speed than many, driver 115 mph. I think for many people getting fit for the proper shaft can help them as much as the proper head.
I got fitted to the Epic about three months ago. The shaft that fit me best was the stock T800 in stiff. I hit it very well but I thought I needed a more robust shaft. I found a HZRDUS Black 6.5 and bought it. I liked the trajectory and was getting some really long drives, but not consistently long drives...like either 220 or 300 not much in between. Accuracy was also very good. I went to a fitting on my home course by a fitter with Trackman and hundreds of shafts. That Black shaft was way too stiff and the torque was not right. I switched back to the T800 and my consistency is greatly improved and my distance is still very good. I think with a lot more testing I might find a better shaft but for now I'm happy with the T800.
I don't like anything in the driver stock shaft lineup, and I am 55g guy. Do not like anything in Project X and for the shafts I want (GD or Oban), the upmarket charge is too high.
I suggest you make an appointment if you have a Club Champion store near you - they have a discount during the holiday on fittings.
Currently playing the stock Diamana Green in the Epic but have a new head with the stock Fuji shaft coming so I'll give that one a spin and see where the numbers line up. I firmly believe I've never had the correct shafts for my swing but that's my fault because I've never been fit. That will be rectified next year for sure.
@tylerkoppgolf I got an EPIC SubZero 9 degree. As I am a lefty that is the only option with the SubZero. Mine has the Project X Hzrdus 5.5 shaft. I use Winn DriTac grips. I was ecstatic to see the improvement in distance and accuracy from my XR. That also had a Project X shaft. I'm still a 7.8 index and 73 years old. With a good quality swing the distance increase is well north of 30 yards and I'm hitting 2-3 more fairways as well. All in all, a gigantic upgrade for me.
