We started having a discussion at work about whether walking the course or riding in a cart is better for your golf game.
Or what is your method of navigating the course? What do you guys think?
I am going to start walking the course this year so I can report back on my opinion (haven't walked a course since playing High School varsity golf).
Walking is awesome for your game. It gives you time to think and keep calm over good and bad , haha. Every time i walk my score is atleast a couple shots better. Plus , when you have to walk to your ball you are very very conscious of where you would like it to land. Its the purest form of a great round !!
When I first started playing I would walk the course which most of them were flat, even walked the one I play regularly now which is "mountain goat hilly". Now I ride no matter what, I get enough exercise getting in and out of the cart. To each their own though.
I like to ride cause everytime I play its so gosh awful hot. I don't think I could last an entire round walking. But, if I was able to play regularly and lived where the temps were moderate to cool, I could see myself walking a bit more. Elevation would be another concern but that's just me.
I have walked my local course (nine only not a full regulation round) which is relatively flat and quite like having the extra "me" time between shots. Plus walking I find walking/tracking directly toward a wayward shot helps me findem quicker.
Walking the course helps me understand where the right place to miss is. It has always given me a better perspective of my golf game from home to hole.
Down here in SE Texas, riding a majority of my rounds is almost a must unless i want a heat stroke.
My local club is only closed one day a year , Christmas. Its cold then but you are allowed to play for free on that day. You just have to walk. That was my first experience walking and it was great. Now I walk about once a month just to have that 'real' feeling. My shots are a lot more deliberate or something. Cant put my finger on it exactly but something is better about walking. If you have never walked before , you should atleast walk 9 one day and you will see what I mean.
I always walk around my home course and the others I visit during the year, its never too hot not to, and its good exercise.
Actually, the only time Ive ever used a buggie, is when I played in Thailand last year, much too hot to walk.
@MikeG_74 I hear you on heat AND walking not being mutually beneficial to the golfer!!
I walked nine during the summer after a storm when it was too wet to let carts out with upper 80s in temp with our typical Ohio Valley humidity and felt like I was going to pass out walking up the 18th. It was all I could do to lift the cart/bag back into the car afterwards.
