What do you consider a good round time?
For a threesome, it’s about 3hrs and 15min with nobody holding us up.
For a foursome, anything below 4hrs is a miracle but it usually ends up about 4hrs and some change.
I'd generally agree, but it also depends on how busy the course is and sometimes the course layout. I've played (older) muni courses where tees and greens are relatively close together and that speeds up play. I've played resort courses with huge distances between tees and greens. I think 4 hrs is a pretty good target.
I'm solo so if nobody is on the course I can do a little over 2 hours. If I get held up a few times but am able to play through I can get in around 2.5 hours. If it's busy and I can't get through many groups then it goes to around 3 or more. I hate those days.
Anything under 4 hours for a foursome is like winning the lottery. Usually I play alone and I can get done in around two hours unless I am jumping around the course to avoid slow groups. When the course is wide open I have been done as quick as an hour and 40 minutes.
On average our four ball generally completes a round in just under 4 hours. This is hugely dependant on how busy the course is, and how polite the slow groups ahead of us is.
Lately, I take my two girls out with me in the late evening and we are lucky if we get 6 holes done in 1.5 hours. I look at it as time well spent! If we ride a cart, they take thier shared set of clubs, if we walk they each take one club. We stop and look at bugs, turtles, ducks...we stop and build sand castles in the bunkers (then rake the bunker)...we stop at the snack shop...we do everything we can to make the time fun so they like golf.
Our club has two courses...one built in the 1920's and the other built in the late 1970's in a housing development...6600 yds v. 7200 yrds. If I am walking by myself with no holdups from other groups I can loop the old course in a little over 2 hours, the new course a little over 2.5 hrs. Most of the difference is due to the extra distance between holes, no so much the course distance.
A foursome in carts on the weekend, anything near 4 hours on either course is wonderful.
@GolferDad66 by the time we get to the course, we are the last ones to tee off. If someone comes up behind us, we let them play through.
@BradCe594 I think your times are a pretty good average. I often play nine holes riding with a friend in about an hour and fifteen minutes, but that's on a fairly easy course. I used to play with my dad and another friend on Saturday mornings, and we were usually done in about three hours. We started early to avoid the weekend crowds. I don't like playing at all if it takes much longer than four hours to play eighteen holes.
My group(s) usually get done in 4 to 4 1/2 hours. We usually have 16-20 playing starting at 9 and usually are all off the course by 2. And thats about half of us walking the 18. Not bad for a group minimum age 64 and a couple in their 80's.
