As usual, I work through my Five Lessons book at the beginning of the year. Was able to get a little more practice in after work during the week. Paying more attention to where the V's line up has greatly improved ball-striking. Got out yesterday with gorgeous weather and moderate breeze to light wind. Unfortunately, a ball rolling by day. Made a couple of nice mid-range putts to save par, but only took advantage of several good looks at birdie one time. Only missed a couple of FW's but no trouble off the tee. 33 putts. Could have been very good round. Made world class up and down on 18 to save par. Left off the tee. 196 in so used Heavenwood. Little bit of trailing wind and hit the Heavenwood right in center of the club. Right at the pin and hit just short. Big bounce and rolled all the way through the green under a scraggly pine tree about 40 yds past the pin. Had clean lie on soft, sandy ground with pine needles. Only about 18" backswing room and had to wiggle in between the branches. Bent over at awkward angle, used 7 iron choked way down so I could keep it under the branches. Made a clean chip and ran it right by the pin about 7'. Made the little right to left putt to save the par. Playing partners were astounded. Posted a 78 (8.0 differential) so definitely a counter with my current 7.6 index. Was going to play today, but very windy (25-35 w/gusts 40-50) so decided to kick back and watch the final round of the Masters. Starting off to be a great finish.
Got home at 7am, took a nap, ran on the treadmill, took shower, waited for wife to have lunch, went to golf course.
Temp all the way up to 45*, all the snow from last night has melted off, not a soul on the course.
I'm nice and relaxed, on midnights you can't be anything else.
I've changed putter again, this time I put in the LG Stimp Max, center shafted flat-top mallet putter made of wood.
Hole 1 driver long and straight, PW to back of green, long downhill putt and I gave it a mighty wack came up about 10ft short, missed 2nd for a 3 putt, tried again putted to same spot, tried again hard as I dare, about 6ft short.....aerated greens, winter hit again, greens are awful
Hole 2 driver pull fade not bad a little short, 3h missed fairway about 80y out, PW tried to slam dunk rolled to back, mighty putter stroke to about 4ft, next just barely caught the left side and dropped for a par
Hole 3 PW long again, another good wack to about 4ft, next barely made it to the hole........
Hole 4 3w long and straight, PW short, SW short, 2 putt
Hole 5 drive over the pond middle fairway about 80y, PW short, SW for a 0 putt birdie
Hole 6 driver long and straight, PW missed right, 62* up close for a tap-in
Hole 7 7i short on green, 2 putt
Hole 8 4w long and not so straight....well actually it was straight just in the wrong direction...in the woods, had an opening 4h to about40y, PW about a ft short of a perfect shot which left me 15ft short, 2 putt
Hole 9 driver long and straight, on downhill slope very wet, pick up and moved back about 5y, now its ball above my feet and downhill slope, 3h decide I want to let it draw, so it hooked about 80y out on a mound downhill slope and ball way below my feet, chunked PW up to about 40y, PW pushed 10ft right, 2 putt bogey
4 pars 4 bogey and a bird
Putter should be fine after they're able to get the greens in shape........according to weather predictions spring is here Thursday, which is also the day I begin my week off.
Not suppose to be any rain so I'll be trying to get out everyday.
Got home 7am, took nap, headed to the course(wife not coming home for lunch.
Its 1 degree warmer at an hour and half earlier than yesterday.
Greens 3-8 are still bad, they were a week late getting the sand and dragging, none are right yet.
Hole 4 12ft birdie putt, holes 3 and 8 bogey
back all pars
Lots of missed birdies, mainly due to green conditions, but the LG Stimp Max seems to be re-teaching me how to putt.
Hopefully be this good tomorrow.
Have you heard me say how I don't mind bogeys, well thats all good if I'm getting 1 every 3 holes or so
today 6 bogeys and a double, in 9 holes, 2 pars, thank God for par 3's
For the most part my putter is doing pretty good until I get really long putts on aerated greens
Hole 2 GIR rolled to far side of green, gave it a mighty wack and about half way there the ball started bouncing and stopped about 10ft short....3 putt
Hole 5 I missed the green short, hole in front, I've been hitting a bit fat, then I bladed my SW to the back of the green and it was about the same as hole 2 but this time for a double.
I believe midnights is taking its toll, Friday my body and brain should be getting back to normal.
I knew that Stimp Max putter was going to be the one, one thing it doesn't like being delofted, I have for many years used a forward press to start the backswing, doesn't work with this putter, flat...take it back and thru. Hard to get use to, have to think about it each putt.
Got off this morning, came home, waited around for awhile then headed out to the course....no nap
About hole 5 the wind was picking up, by the back it was way up, feeling sorry for those just starting.
39/39, 9 fairways, 8 gir, 30 putts, I had so many putts that just missed, one day they will be falling. 4 of 9 up and down for par
Today I got out early, mild breeze that picked up as the day went on.....when I turned back on 15 it was bad the rest of the way in.
38/38, 10 fairways, 8gir, 30 putts, 3 of 9 up and downs, making some long putts, 2 birdies
First on course, fairway hole 4 I see a single in a cart on 2. I reached 7 green(par 3) turned and he was at the tee, I motioned for him to play thru......I finish 9 and going across parking lot to 10 a cart comes zipping thru and he gets out to tee of on 10, I get closer and he's playing with the guy I let thru(I guess the guy was waiting for his buddy before teeing off 10), this kinda irks me, so waiting at tee watching them hit second shots, they go on, I hit my tee shot and start walking, I get to my ball and they are just walking to the green????????
I stand there and watch as they become professional golfers on the green, finally they get done and drive off, I hit to the green, walk up and fix a few ball marks, look at my putt and make birdie, stat walking for the next tee its about 100y away. They are sitting at the tee when I cross the road then they take off??????
I get to the tee and they stop and stat looking in the woods and one walks over into the next fairway, finally I start yelling HELLO HELLO HELLO, anf they get the message and I play thru......steaming and I bogey 4 of the next 5
Got out there today for 4 holes, it was cold, snow flying, little hard flakes dinging off my glasses.
Hole 1 and 18 were the basic missed green pitch on 2 putt bogey
2 pitched on completely wrong side of green, whacked it and come up about 10ft short then made the putt for bogey
17 (par 3), tee shot in a really bad spot, used 58 to try and make the miracle shot.....didn't happen, hit green and bounced off, pitched back and rolled about 10ft past the hole.....then made the putt
Then I went in the clubhouse to warmup for about 45 mins. Our high for the day 39* was at 6:30am
Got a little warm up yesterday 41* when I started 56* when I finished, wore winter gloves between shots for 5 holes, took off hoodie and changed hats at the turn, sleeves pulled up at hole 13.
Started with a little wind and it grew as it warmed up.
Stepped back to the blue 70.5/133, all winter playing way up front and farther, not rated.
Back to the blue means no more tee shot then wedge......
I have figured out how to flight the X20's lower, these winds are still a killer. I'm using 4i for 150y but I have control. Yesterday switched to 4i from 4h.
40/41, 11 fairways, 3gir, 30 putts, 4 of 15 up and down for par
hitting the green will pick up when the wind dies down, but holes 2,5,8,15 I missed with low chance of (me) getting up and down, the other 11 were simple easy shots that I blew 7 times........and the ones I was successful it was the putter saving me. I made several looong putts, and the long putts I missed left tape ins.
today its suppose to reach 70's
Started the day bogey bogey bogey, then 5 pars and a birdie on 9
Then some of my buddies wanted to join me .....mainly because the front was getting crowded, and of course I had no problem with it.
So now I move up to the front, which is where they play, I quit keeping any score, riding dragging my cart behind was tough on my shoulder and I wasn't carrying any of my pain killers. We finished the back and I put my cart in the car and played the front again.
The guy I was riding with was asking aboutsome clubs with a stiff shaft, his have light flex and he just can't get any power out of them. I told him I have some Callaway clubs for sale in the clubhouse, so he went in and got them to try..........he was just amazed how much better these clubs are. The FTiq 10*, and Ft squareway 3 an 5.
I had them priced at $100 for the 3 clubs, but if its a buddy then they're free.
