I recently purchased a used 2015/16 GBB head. I was expecting a matte finish on the crown. This head has a glossy black finish with a white sole much like the women's model. Could this be a club bought thru Callaway's UDesign program? The head has a serial of 6404334629. Club seems to be of very high quality with no obvious knock-off shortcomings. I tested the crown with a magnet and it is not steel like I would expect if it was a fake. Real? Fake?
I did email Callaway customer service. First reply from them took about 2 weeks. I included serial number in the 2nd request... still waiting for a reply on the 2nd request. I am tempted to phone the Certified PreOwned number but suspect they would just give me a "could be but might not be" type of answer. Some have said Callaway no longer tracks serial numbers... kind of proven by the lack of serial numbers on some drivers. Serial numbers seems to be hit or miss? I honestly think it is authentic but the lack of a matte finish was a surprise. Thank you.
I do beleive the Udesign for that model did have the glossy finish on top of the head; however it seems odd that the rest of the design is essentially void of color other than white (yes I know that's a color). At least your magnet didn't stick!
The white sole is like the women's club, only lacking the blue trim. Slide weight is chrome.
I pulled the center weight and it was stamped 5g like I would expect from an authentic head. BTW The head was being sold as women's 9* but I realized it would have the same specs as a men's so I bought it at a bargain price. Only real difference between Mens and Womens club would have been the shaft weight and I would be using my own shaft. Fingers-crossed I got a bargain?
Before I share with you the reply I got from Callaway I want to thank those who offered advice. Your help was appreciated... After 2 weeks here is the useless reply I got from Callaway. Certainly a lot less helpful than I expected ! And YES, it will influence my next club purchase... It may or may not buy from an authorized dealer BUT I can assure you it will not be a Callaway product ! Makes you wonder if they even verify the clubs they sell to you on their Certified PreOwned site?

Thank you for your inquiry,
To me that is a very poor response considering I sent them a serial number from the club. I understand protecting & promoting their dealers but I think they also have a duty to support their customers. I am tempted to send them the serial number off a club I bought FROM Certified PreOwned and see if I get the same BS answer. Guess you only get service if you buy the latest $400+ driver. No longer a Callaway customer!
Sorry you got the canned response instead of something truly helpful to the situation.. and waiting two weeks for the response of course is frustrating.
with that said it looks like you got a decent deal (and are happy?) with your purchase? I’ll take that Head off your hands as I’ve the ladies version of those woods that look VERY much like that.
