Received by steelhead pros fitted up with Recoil ES shafts in the "black" especial paint. I finished the set with the neon green MCC+4 grips.
I spec'd them and adjusted the lie to match my needs.
I have alyways used irons with a bit more offset than the current Steelhead Pro. Which concerned me from a control standpoint. Not mention these are competing for space in the bag against APEX with the regualr recoil shafts.
After several range sessions and a launch monitor test I have to say, the new Pro set is a tighter flight pattern with distances comparable if not better than the apex model. The missing offset makes me pay more attention to the set up and swing. The black shaft and model of shaft make for a sold feel at impact and a familar ball flight.
So much so I will be doing a youtube video on the set and grips.
I also got an MD3 56 and 60 wedge set in black. I can say this is was an upgrade from the MD2
So I take it you perfer the new Steelhead Pros over the Apex? I love my Apex and will wait until this fall to see what Callaway is going to do. Word has it that a Apex CF18 will be coming out and one person said they look really good. Also another rumor is that a Epic iron will be coming out either in May or later in the fall.
I dont know if it is prefer or its just different.
The APEX clubs are the first generation and have a shaft that "may" be a bit loose for my current swing.
The APEX imo is a great design with the wider sole and slightly more offset makig it a forged product that alot of golfers can handle. I put a tourspx recoil in another set of irons that perform very good in comparision. That shaft is very very simliar to the ES in the steelhead pro irons.
The SHPRO model has a small sole that has a protential to get me in trouble later in the year when the grass starts to get a bit more harry.
I will say the sound when miss hit is totally different, the misses in direction and distance are different but when hit decent both have a comparable feel.
The new grips dont hurt either
