Recently I tested the new Steelhead XR Irons. Callaway sent me the club to test for the purposes of writing a review for the Callaway Community.
Steelhead XR Irons, Standard/graphite/regular
I played three rounds with these irons. The weather was fairly consistant in the Houston area; mid-90's, humid and a slight breeze to help with overheating. The course conditions were slighty dry with some run out from the carry distances.
Club Characteristics (1=Very poor, 10=Outstanding)
I felt a pleasing sound when striking the ball. I was able to square the head easily and produce a sweet strike on the ball and felt an effortless ezplosive feeling upon impact. The distance for each club was 10 ro 15 yards longer than my personal irons! I love these irons...
(1=Very poor, 10=Outstanding)
|DISTANCE compared to my current irons||10/10|
|FORGIVENESS compared to my current irons||10/10|
|CONTROL compared to my current irons||10/10|
|LAUNCH compared to my current irons||10/10|
I was impressed with the qualities I look for while playing irons. They are looks, distance amd forgiveness. I rated these irons a solid 10!
I found these irons exceeded my expectations for all performance charistics and look forward ro purchasing tham in the future!
I don't presently have them in my golf bag!
Summary of My Experience with the Club
I am extremely happy using these irons and look forward to purchasing them in the future!
What are your personal irons? Would be interesting to see what you are comparing the steelheads to.
@FielderH0b70 I have the same irons.
I really like them as well. I have used the 4, 7, PW and SW more than anything and they have a nice weighted feel.
I'm really interested in the Steelhead Pros. I don't play enough to consider paying for the new Epic, and I really don't think I wanna get the Apex irons (CFs, Pros, or other) unless I am able to play more. But the price, look, reviews, and specs of the Steelhead Pros definitely has my attention. If I win the $500 Callaway giftcard I'm getting them for sure!!
