I've been looking at buying a new 3 wood, I've hit the epic and tm m1 both with the hzrdous black 75 6.5 xstiff shaft.
With the epic I was averaging 270 and the m1 260. The epic also had slightly better dispersion.
So here is my problem, TM offers the hzrdous black 75 shaft as a free upgrade where as callaway has a $250 up charge for the same shaft.
Not sure the extra yards are worth $250 more, but still on the fence on that.
Why does one company have a free upgrade and another upcharge $250 for the same shaft??
That is strange, but I'm sure there's an answer. I ended up getting the HZRDUS Black for my Epic driver from CPO when they had a sale going. Did you try any other shafts in the Epic? If you are getting better distance and dispersion using the same shaft, logic would tell you the distance and accuracy gains are because of the head. So, if you could find a no upcharge shaft that gives similar performance to the HB, you could have the best of both worlds...or, find a good deal on a used HB and sell the original shaft.
I did try several other shafts and that one just performed better than the rest. I have a high swing speed 115-120 and the low trajectory low spin shaft works nicely. I have the same shaft in my TM R1 driver and average around 300 yrds with it.
I checked the previously used site and unfortunately I'm a lefty and they have no offerings yet with the hzrdous black yet.
The extra $250 gets you the HZRDUS Handcrafted which is handmade in San Diego (I've seen the process and was allowed to roll my own while at Project X). The no upcharge version for Taylormade is made in China. The handcrafted with have this logo while the China version will not.
