I have been hitting some 9* Epic SZ lately at my local shop messing around with some different shafts and Im not exactly sure which one would be perfect me. I have a fitting coming up soon and need to get my spin rate down about 1000. The fitter and I have the head weight figured out for me but Im not sure about which shaft to go with. We had the Rogue Max 75 X-Stiff and the Oban Gold X-Stiff but Im unsure how I feel about both them, some were really good and some not so good both the same. Most hits were coming off as fades as my normal shape is a little draw. Something just felt off a bit with them. My swing speed is 110-117. Ball speed coming off it was 161. Launch angle 12. Any suggestions on shafts I should try with it to lower spin rate and straighten out that fade?
@Dcmss5 I bought a standard Epic with the T800 in stiff. Hit it well during the fitting...either straight or with a little draw. When I took it out to the course, I started noticing more and more fades and slices. I got a good deal on a HZRDS Black in stiff...and its about 1/2" shorter than standard. Shots are now straighter with a bias towards draws.
You might try the HZRDS Black.
I have 3 shafts for My GBB Epic SZ 9.0 degree lofted driver. I have a similar swing speed to you at about 113-114 MPH. I have a 44.5" shaft length in all of my shafts.
Aldila Rogue Silver 6.0 XS 72G
Rogue MAX 65 stiff 66 G
PX HZDRUS Black 6.5 62G
I have the loft adjusted to 11 degrees (+2) and the HZDRUS Black gives me the best ball flight. It low and penetrating. The Aldila Rogue Silver is very low but always in the fairway, while the Rogue MAX65 is all over the board with a higher mid launch shaft.
