How many of you look at your clubs lofts and lie angles?
I just got some Apex CF16. Was supposed to be +1* lie. Going by factory specs almost the entire set was off.
Here's where my lofts were:
Club Spec Actual
5 24 28
6 27 29
7 31 34
8 35 36.5
9 40 41.5
P 45 45
A 50 49.5
I couldn't believe how far off 5-7 were. Lies were also 1*-2* off from what the specs were.
How many of you check your clubs to see where they really are?
Can't say I've ever actually checked on a machine but I do look at the specs before purchasing and then try to order them to the lie angle I want. Not sure if they are actually spec'd at that point but as far as loft goes I've never given it a thought.
@rlloyd I had the same issue when I recievd mine.Ordered them 1* flat. Only one club was on spec. I had the ame issue of the 5 & 6 Iorn being only one degree apart in loft. Both Lofts and lies where off. Luckily our club has a loft/lie machine and I had them bent to the correct lofts and lies, only charged me $20. I figured it was worth it not to have to send the back and forth and be without for 2 weeks. I know it's not the tour truck but the should be close. That's the only issue I've had with the CF16's in 18 months and they are some darn good irons. I'm sure Callaway will make it right for you, the CS team is the best in the business. I know it's a little frustrating. Going forward I wll check them when I recieve anything.
@rlloyd WOW... Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I will have mine checked for sure. Some of yours were WAY off . That is not cool , I figured that would be a critical check before they get sent out. Good for you for checking bud.
I just had mine rechecked after a demo day because the fitter put me in a lie angle I didn't think I fit. After I flushed about 20 balls, my first thought was, why don't my clubs feel like this. My situation was very similar in that my clubs were not even close to the specs I had payed for..I was pissed!!!! I now understand why it's important to have them checked. Tolerances aren't what they used to be.
I built my clubs with Maltby KE4 heads about 7 years ago. My dad is also a DIY'er and build some clubs. Then he got a bit crazy with it. Needed all the tools which works out great. Grip station, loft & lie machine etc.
He adjusts everyone's clubs, changes grips, shafts etc for everyone in the family. So it was really easy to check everything. We adjusted the 5 then went to the front yard to check the lie board. Went from toe to center.
It takes a 1/2hr going slow and easy. Now all my clubs are exact. Every manufacturer he checks are off.
So i recommend everyone get their clubs checked. You might end up liking your clubs even more and hitting them farther. My 5 & 6 were almost the same club and so close to the 7 I may have regretted the purchase thinking they didn't work well for me.
Now the hard part - getting more time to play! There a machine for that?
@rlloyd, it seems like you aren't the only one. It even happens to Tour Players apparently according to this article.
