I recently got an Odyssey O-Works 2-ball putter. I had the putter shortened and put a Superstroke CounterCore Pistol GT grip on it. I am currently debating whether or not I should keep the 50g CounterCore weight in the grip. I have found the 50g weight has affected my lag putting a bit. Tough for me to find the feel now that the putter head is lighter. However, the weight does steady my hands a bit. Anyone else have a Superstroke CounterCore grip? What was your experience with it? Did you keep in the weight in?
Any feedback would greatly apprecaited.
@gee2626 For the last couple of years I exclusively used the Counter Core Pistol GT 1.0 grip and did use the 50g weight in the end. I like the extra weight feel in my hands. At first it did feel like the head was lighter and in a way it is but once I got used to it I actually started preferring lighter weighted heads down to the 350g range instead of the 360g I used to like. I recently moved to a different style of grip and not sure if I will keep it or not but the weight of the new grip is only about 10g lighter than the CounterCore so it's still in that same ballpark.
As with anything it just takes a little bit of getting used to a certain feel. If you end up not liking it there really is nothing more simple than swapping a grip on a club.
I got the V-Line Fang with the exact grip. Pistol GT with 50 G counterbalance weight. I also found some of what you were describing. With the weight in my direction was improved and will say steadiness of grip. However my speed/distance control was noticeable worse. So I instead opted for improved speed/distance control with the weight out. I have been working on different drills, pre shot routine, grips and the sort to help with proper alignment/ grip steadiness as those are easier for me to notice and correct...I am also considering going away from the pistol GT grip completrely and going to a larger diameter straight grip. I'm hoping that this will aid the change in grip style I am wanting to incorparate. Good luck.
I'd keep the 50g counterweight. But, I've been "blessed" with the yips in my life and the 50g weight and the claw grip saved my sanity! As mentioned it steadies the hands. But....also I lost a little feel on distance. That, however, comes back with practice and time.
I like the weight in my hands @gee2626. I did notice the head weight change like you did. Steady hands on the knee knockers out to 12ft is better for my game. Those long lag putts arent as critical to me. I guess im saying leave the weight in , haha. @PC98 turned me on to these grips and my putting has gotten better the last couple of years. Good Luck
@gee2626 : I have a Superstroke 2.0 XL grip with the 50 gram weight installed on my Odyssey 1W Tank version. This combination works well for me. I get the effect that @RickM mentioned, better putting on the shorter putts. My distance control is still pretty good too, but I really like the stable feeling on the short ones. I would give the weight some time in and see what happens.
