Had an offer for some KBS Tour FLT shafts that were pulls from a set of TM 790’s. Made the trade and put them in my CF16’s. Was a bit tricky as these were 4-PW shafts and I have 5-AW. I called the fitting room last time they were on Sirus and spoke with @NaydelmanCG about my project. There was some tinkering to do. Figuring the shafts would be at least 1/2 long. Once I remove the shafts from my Apex I found out the shaft length was only 1/4” longer so I left as is dry fitted everything and got them all at D3 swing weight and assembled. They are stiff shafts so if anything the added length may soft step them a 1/3 of a flex. Haven’t had them on the course yet, but real happy with what I’ve seen on the range.
The club may be a bit softer due to a 4 iron shaft going into a 5 iron.
The slight change in soft step is not a game changer. I would suggest to ensure you have the proper final length.
Im not sure if there is some kind of negative mojo putting in a TM shaft into a cally head
but I am sure it will work out. well done on the club work.
@ChuckH Hats off to you as I admire guys who like to tinker with their clubs and are willing to put that much work in. I'm thrilled when I'm able to regrip my clubs every year and can't imagine doing all the work and prep necessary to reshaft clubs and get it right so you can notice and achieve the results you were looking for.
@jimm9fa7 Please correct me if I am wrong on this,but....if I ordered shafts from KBS don't they all come the same length so I can cut them the way I want? If so, could I leave the TM 4 iron shaft alone, put the TM 5-PW in the Cally heads, then cut the 4 iron shaft to fit the AW? What am I missing?
The 5-PW you could just soft step as described BUT the trim the 4 to an AW is not the ing to do when using taper tipped shafts. You could trim the tip to get the proper flex but you would have removed the "taper " part of the tip it the trimming process. these are the shafts the come in different lengths.
If the shafts come in 370 typically that are same length when delivered and then yes the trimming will work but check for total length juuuussst to make sure you will have enough shaft
