I need some advice. I'm going to get a 3 XForged UT, but I'm unsure what shaft to get.
Getting fit is not an option. I'm Left Handed so none of the fitters near me have any LH UTs to try out and I'm not going to drive the 3 hours to a fitter that would have them.
Here's what I'm having questions on:
1. Keep the same shaft as the rest of my irons (KBS Tour V Stiff)
2. Go to a lighter weight steel shaft
3. Go to a graphite shaft
My info: GHIN is about 3...driver swing speed is 106...7 irong swing speed is 83, carry is 162...relatively smooth transistion...tend to hit a slight draw...relatively comfortable hitting a 3 iron, but I need a little more distance on my 3 iron for some long par 3s.
Go with the same shafts you have in your long irons. There usually isn't a compelling reason to put a lighter shaft in just one of your irons (and the UT is basically just another iron).
However, depending on how you strike your long irons you might want to try lighter shafts in everything 6 and up. In fact I actually started off trying this and moved everything in the bag from KBS C-Taper to C-Taper lite's. Depending on how YOU swing, this may or may not do what everyone seems to say (which is lighter shaft equals higher launch and more spin); I actaully launched lower and with less spin switching to the C-Taper lite shafts and found tighter dispersion.
As far as graphite, avoid it like the plague in your irons. IMO, you swing fast enough (7i@80+) that if you take diviots at all you'll probably (eventually) snap it off at the hossel.
