Recently I tested the new APEX Pro Irons. Callaway sent me the clubs to test for the purposes of writing a review for the Callaway Community.
Model Tested (head, shaft, flex):
Apex Pro, Project X 6.0
Irons were tested over the week during multiple rounds. First being in Ruidoso, NM, perfect conditions, high elevation, course in pristine shape. Other rounds were played in Las Cruces, NM, slight wind, course conditions were fair.
Driver Swing Speed:
Club's characteristics: (1 - Very Poor; 7 - Outstanding)
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Aesthetics/Appearance X Acoustics/Sound X Feel X
At first glance, the set-up is a typical Callaway product, beautiful lines, design is clean and simple. Very good looking iron throughout.
Performance: (1 - Very Poor; 7 - Outstanding)
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 DISTANCE compared to my current irons X FORGIVENESS compared to my current irons X CONTROL compared to my current irons X LAUNCH characteristics compared to my current irons X
Current iron set is X-22 Tour, greater distance throughout each iron. A little less forgiving then current set, but very forgiving because the club is forged. Mis-hits had a minimal yardage loss and stayed on line. The distributive weighting from PW to 3 is noticeable in launch angle. Best shot was a 278 yard 3-iron.
Clean, streamline look.
Very workable and had enough forgiveness for slight mis-hits.
Launch angle from iron to iron was perfect.
Was able to control spin better than current set.
Not much to dislike here, if I had to complain about one thing, its the chrome on the face of the club head, the sun reflects bright (extremely rare).
Summary of My Experience with the Club:
Great experience, would definitely purchase in the future. Played better golf with these irons, I was able to control my shots a lot more than current set.
